Become a Sustainable Food Champion!

Sustainable Food Champions is an after school youth cooking program where participants learn about the environmental impact of our food system and what we can do as individuals and as a community to create a more sustainable food system.

High school students are eligible to receive 3 community service hours for each week that they participate.

Over the course of the program, participants will prepare a variety of foods including bread, pretzels, crackers, soups, stews, and vegetable sides, using upcycled and surplus ingredients.

Throughout the program participants will gain:

  • Improved food literacy and cooking skills
  • Understanding of the environmental impacts of food waste
  • Awareness of food insecurity as a widespread concern and how this impacts health
  • Experience with food service production
  • 3 volunteer hours/week
